The Hunger Games Chapters 5-9

As I read more and more, I got more intrigued with this book. Whether its how Katniss's attitude toward something or an event like try outs, I started to love this book. In the beginning of this section, we see how people in the capitol are compared to in some of the districts that don't have all of the pleasures people here have.  A example of this is when they have to get the tributes glamorized enough for the crowds. We meet another mentor of the two tributes of District 12, Cinna. Cinna does all the beauty work to get Katniss and Peeta sponsors and get people to like them.  We see Cinna's ability to wow people first when he asks "Your not afraid of fire, are you Katniss?"(Collins 65)  Cinna had made both Peeta and Katniss suits that are on fire, well not real fire.  This is where we see the beginning of the relationship between Katniss and Peeta when the two hold hands. Then proceeded by the crowd going wild and Katniss giving Peeta a kiss on the cheek.
After the ceremonies The tributes and the mentors go to their rooms. Later they have dinner and Katniss causes a stir. Katniss says that she recognizes a Avox. Effie gets a bit sassy here. She says that it is impossible because a Avox is someone who committed a crime and got their tough cut out. Peeta then covers her by saying that she looks like a girl from the Seam. After dinner Peeta and Katniss go on the roof. Katniss wonders if she could jump off and end this, and once again Peeta saves her by saying its electrified. Later that night, the Avox gets Katniss's Outfit and all Katniss does is hide under the covers. She gets the sense that the Avox will enjoy watching Katniss die.
The next mourning at Breakfast, Haymitch decides to go over strategies for the Game. After that the two go to training. they have two options at training, Combat Training or Survival Skills. The two choose Survival skills by learning about knots and camouflage, which Peeta likes. On the second day of training the two notice a girl watching them, Rue. They notice Rue is good with plants and trees. On the Third day, the Gamemakers and the tributes have private training. Katniss uses her archery skills.  She shoots a couple of errors and then gets more precise with her shots and notices now cares any more. She sees a Pig with a apple in the mouth on the table for the Gamemakers. She shoots the apple, startles the Gamemakers, and storms off. She goes back to the room and waits for the scores. Most of the career tributes get good scores, along with Peeta. Due to Katniss's  dramatic show, she got a score of  11/12 which was the highest anyone had got.  The next mourning she wakes up thinking of Gale. She remembers her first time meeting Gale and how pleasant it was. That day was the day the interviews were made. Cinna styled both of the two and gave Katniss a dress and a nickname. He gave her a dress that lights up with fire and subsequently gives her the name "The Girl on Fire." Her interview with the host Ceaser Flickerman went very well, especially when she showed her flames. Next was Peeta, he told about his life in District 12 and tells the reader about his crush. It is useless though, because "I came to the games with her." (Collins 130-131)

The Hunger Games Summary: Chapters 1-4

(I'd like to preference this by saying that I have not read this before and have seen the movie, so I know the major plot points.)

To start this is shaping up to be a good book and that I understand the hype over the book. Here you meet the strong 16 years old Katniss Everdeen. The story covers the background of her. She has a 12 year old sister Prim, a emotionally distraught mother, and a deceased father from a mining accident. The reader also gets the metal image that Suzanne Collins is painting of the starving, poverty stricken District 12. Katniss has to illegally hunt to feed her family because her mother does not have a job. While the reader listens to her hunt, they approach Gale, Katniss's friend. The  reader explores the tight relationship between  the two. Then comes the Reaping. The reaping is where each of the twelve districts send two tributes, one boy and one girl from the ages twelve to eighteen, to fight to the death in a arena. This shows how crazy a tyrannical government can be. At the reaping's the drawing of names Prim come up and Katniss volunteers to take her place. At the reaping we meet three other very important main characters: Effie Trinket, Haymitch and Peeta. Haymitch is the only Hunger Games winner from District 12 and bit of alcoholic.  Peeta Malark is the boy chosen to go to the hunger games from District 12. Peeta and Katniss have a bit of a back story. One rainy day, Katniss had been searching through a bakery's trash for food but had been chased of by Peeta mother and Peeta saw who? Hungry Katniss. He burnt two loafs of bread and took abuse for just to give them to Katniss.  After this Katniss says goodbye to her family and Gale. I have finished the book today and end this by saying i will be posting all the other summaries daily and a final response after the summaries
